Mould Testing

Mould Detection, Mould Inspection and Mould Testing

Mould detection and inspection is an important factor before any mould testing is conducted. Detecting moisture and humidity levels is a crucial part of the maintenance of any building. Knowing when to take action proactively can help avoid costly repairs and can help you identify problems before they happen. We use moisture meters, infrared cameras and hygrometers to check for wet or damp areas in your home or workplace, where mould could grow. The moisture meter will help you find out the areas of high risk. The hygrometer will help identify humidity and water vapour levels in the air. The infrared camera will help identify temperature differences in the building.

How Dangerous are Moulds?

Mould is a danger to our health and we should be aware of its presence and take precautions.

There are many types of moulds, and some can be hazardous to your health. It’s best to remove mould as they could cause potential harm and implement steps to prevent further mould growth.

How Does A Building Biologist Do a Mould Inspection

Mould inspection involves different inspection methods to identify or prevent mould growth.

  • Visual inspection: This type of inspection is visual and assesses the materials at the surface level for any visible growth or possible moisture. It doesn’t, however, detect moisture levels because it only assesses the surface.

  • Odour detection: The presence of earthy, musty smells can be a sign of visible or invisible mould in your house. Mould releases mycotoxins, which in turn produce earthy or musty odours in a room. This may also be caused by moisture and air movement from vents and windows being open nearby.

  • Moisture meter measurements: This type of inspection uses a professional moisture meter to detect any water or moisture that has water-damaged building materials.

  • Humidity measurements: help monitor the level of humidity and water vapor in a given room. These levels are then compared to outdoor levels for a more accurate comparison on how the building is behaving.

How Do You Do Mould Detection

Mould is a term for a type of fungus that grows in damp areas and releases spores. Mould growth can be seen in various colors, and the spores released by the mould can cause allergic reactions. There are many different types of mould and some of them can be hazardous to people’s health

There are a few different ways to detect mould. One way is by measuring the level of chemical activity on a surface, called ATP levels. Usually, this means that there is either a bacteria or a fungus growing on the surface. If the ATP levels are high enough, it confirms that something is happening – meaning mould or bacteria – and mould testing for laboratory analysis should be conducted.

How Do You Do Mould Testing

Mould testing is a necessary step in the mould inspection process. In some instances, mould can cause serious health effects.

When it comes to mould testing methods, there are three main types: air spore sampling and surface sampling. DNA PCR analysis is also a more comprehensive method of mould species identification. Depending on the level of concern, one or more of these methods might be used for detection purposes.
